What is match factor?
Match factor (MF) is a ratio that measures how well a truck fleet is balanced against a loader fleet. An MF of 1.0 means perfect balance: loaders finish loading one truck just as the next arrives. Below 1.0 means loaders sit idle waiting for trucks. Above 1.0 means trucks queue waiting for loaders.
In practice, most operations target an MF between 0.85 and 1.05. Slightly under-trucked fleets (MF 0.85-0.95) are often cost-optimal because loader operating costs per hour typically exceed truck operating costs.
